2. Mac Jones, Quarterback, Alabama

The Cowboys are going to be linked with quarterbacks in Round 1 until they either make a different selection or ink Prescott to a long-term extension. Dallas needs to make sure they don’t panic to overdraft a signal-caller at No. 10.

Spending the pick on Jones would be a classic panic move by the Cowboys. He doesn’t project to be anything more than an adequate starter at the next level. At the very least, any prospect chosen in the top-10 should offer significantly more upside.

Furthermore, there’s no reason for the Cowboys to draft any quarterback in Round 1 if they truly intend to lock Prescott up for the long haul. Drafting Jone would effectively be admitting defeat. If Dallas is going to make a seismic change at the game’s most important position, they need to gamble on a better prospect than Jones.

Add it all up and he’s the wrong player for the Cowboys and he plays the wrong position for the team to target at No. 10. Selecting him this high in Round 1 would be combining two pretty big draft sins for a franchise that can’t afford that kind of mistake.
