1. Dak Prescott

With the Cowboys possibly ready to franchise tag him again this offseason, if they can’t get a long-term deal done, Prescott also stretches the concept of availability right now. But it’s absolutely possible he hits the open market unabated, with a number of suitors that will have cap space ready to line up even as he comes off a major injury.

Prescott was on a torrid pace before being injured last season (1,856 passing yards in less than five full games), and his absence gave him increased leverage in contract talks with the Cowboys. Owner/GM Jerry Jones said as much, suggesting he “doesn’t know how you could have any more leverage” than Prescott will have as negotiations start again.

If Prescott holds the line he has held to this point, the Cowboys will have a decision–pay him what he wants over the length of deal he wants, or tag him at $37.68 million and risk him not signing it for awhile. That opens up the notion he’ll be gone,

Apart from public comments that have tried to contradict it, the Cowboys have handled Prescott in a fashion that says they think they can eventually replace him with an upgrade. That’s a slippery path to be walking down, and the Raiders should be ready to move Carr and get Prescott if there’s any opportunity.
