3. Kenny Golladay best free agency fits – Detroit Lions

One team that will be highly motivated to sign Golladay is his current one. The Detroit Lions are trying to thread the needle between rebuilding under new head coach Dan Campbell while also playing competitive football, a tough act to pull off if Golladay leaves.

The downgrade at quarterback from Matthew Stafford to Jared Goff is significant but nowhere near as bad as the one Golladay would face in New York. Goff has taken a team to the Super Bowl in his career, something the Lions have yet to do as a franchise.

Keeping Golladay would also be a sign of good faith to Lions’ fans who have watched plenty of talented players either walk away in free agency or retire to avoid wasting more years in Detroit. Campbell will have to do a key selling job here to help convince Golladay that he can be part of a significant culture change in Detroit.

The issue here could be how the Lions squeeze a hefty contract for Golladay in under the salary cap, which got more complicated for them by absorbing Goff’s terrible contract. Golladay is also likely to seek a chance to win soon, which the Lions are unlikely to offer.
