4. Gerald Everett

Hunter Henry’s impending free agency leaves the Chargers in a tough spot. They understand how much Herbert can benefit from a high-end safety valve at the tight end position. In a perfect world, they’d employ two tight ends capable of troubling opposing secondaries at the same time.

That makes Everett an intriguing free agent target even if they’re able to keep Henry in the fold. He thrived in Los Angeles as the No. 2 tight end behind Tyler Higbee. He might be slightly overmatched as a No. 1 option, but he’s certainly overqualified to be a team’s No. 2.

The Chargers offense could really benefit from Everett’s ability to flex out into the slot and make plays in space. He’s not the fastest guy in the NFL at that spot, but he does an effective job of breaking tackles by leveraging his size advantage against opposing defensive backs. He’s a guy who can help keep the chains moving for the Chargers on a regular basis.

Los Angeles shouldn’t break the bank on a tight end who can’t really contribute to their run game, but Everett could be a nice bargain signing for the team if his market doesn’t get out of hand. At the very least, he’s someone the Chargers need to keep tabs on when free agency begins.
