1. Rashawn Slater, Offensive Lineman, Northwestern

The Eagles need to spend significant resources to strengthen their offensive line in the offseason. In particular, injuries at tackle really hampered the team’s ability to protect either quarterback in 2020. If elite left tackle prospect Penei Sewell falls to No. 6, Philadelphia should jump at the chance to select him.

The same is not true for Slater. He is the No. 2 offensive tackle on most people’s boards at the moment, but his lack of size for the position makes him a risky prospect to select in Round 1. Taking him at No. 6 would be one of the biggest reaches of the entire draft.

In fact, there’s a logical argument to be made that Slater would be better served kicking inside to either guard or center in the NFL. He has the tactical acumen to excel as an interior tactician without being exposed for his lack of brute strength. Slater would need to blossom into the best guard in the NFL to provide the value required to be drafted at the No. 6 position.

Unfortunately for Philadelphia, their profound need to add a starting tackle just doesn’t line up well with the value available to them at their spot in Round 1. The Eagles will need to look to free agency or work to unearth a hidden gem in the later rounds to improve their pass protection this offseason.
