Eagles fans should expect the battle between Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts to rage on during the offseason. Fortunately, the choice between the two talented quarterbacks really shouldn’t change the franchise’s draft strategy. Either signal-caller is going to need more weapons to enjoy a productive campaign in 2021.
Philadelphia enters the draft with seven selections. They don’t have a pick in Round 4, but they do have two selections in Round 5. The crown jewel of the team’s draft capital is the No. 6 overall selection in the first round.
The lack of salary cap available to the front office makes nailing that pick an absolute necessity. The Eagles have to choose a player at No. 6 who can help them right away and serve as a franchise cornerstone for years to come.

DeVonta Smith has separated himself as the clear No. 1 wide receiver in this class. That’s bad news for the Eagles because it means he’ll be off the board before they make their first selection. Make no mistake, Chase represents a great consolation prize for Philadelphia.
It’s possible that he’s flying under-the-radar since he opted out of the 2020 season at LSU. That’s caused some people to forget about just how dynamic he can be. He showcased a great deal of polish as an outside receiver playing with Joe Burrow in 2019. Chase does lack absolutely elite athletic traits, but he profiles as an above-average NFL talent in almost every physical category.
His fit in Philadelphia would be perfect playing opposite Jalen Reagor on the outside. Reagor can stretch opposing secondaries with his blazing speed which would leave Chase open to be more of a tactician on intermediate routes. That combination could turn into a nightmare for opposing cornerbacks in 2021.
