After NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day there was a lot to answer for and this week’s edition of NXT was the start of the conversations.

With NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day in the rearview, the main story focused on the implosion of the Undisputed Era. While this was not the only story to watch, there was much more to unpack on another episode of WWE NXT.

The first match of the night brought out The Way versus Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart. Both teams fell short in the Dusty Cup Tag Classic, but that did not mean they would end their tag team title ambitions.

The Way had the early advantage as Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae took turns on an isolated Blackheart. That was until Moon was able to find a way to change things, but even that did not help as Hartwell laid her out before making another tag to LeRae. The attacks continued until Blackheart was able to get into the ring and swing things in their favor.

The match broke down with all four women in the ring, but LeRae continued to kick out of every pin attempt. Johnny Gargano returned from the back with the kidnapped Austin Theory, but the distraction allowed Moon to roll up Hartwell for the win.

Swerve Scott is fed up

Swerve Scott and Leon Ruff out next for singles action.

The two men went to the quickness well first, at least until Scott laid out Ruff with a jumping knee. It is rare that you see Scott use power moves, but he broke them all out against the smaller man. Ruff did not stay down forever, landing a springboard cutter and clothesline, but Scott kicked out of the pin attempt. Scott continued to batter Ruff, until Ruff countered with the crucifix bomb and pinned Scott for the win.

More women’s tag team action was up next as Kayden and Kacy were out to compete against Aliyah and Jessie.

Kacy and Kayden were distracted after getting off to a good start as Boa was seen standing at the top of the ramp. Aliyah and Kamea were doing well until Kamea made the tag to Aliyah giving their opponents the opportunity to take advantage. They would then hit a series of tag team moves, including a big splash from Kayden to pick up the win.

Tyler Rust tests Kushida

Kushida and Tyler Rust were out for a one-on-one match next. Kushida was favoring his arm after Sunday’s match with Johnny Gargano, but that did not slow him down in this match. They started out grappling but it did not take long before the pace picked up, with Kushida nearly pinned Rust. Rust took advantage from there with a stiff punch and started to twist Kushida’s joints, forcing him to roll out the ring for a breather.

Back in the ring, Kushida got rolling, hitting Rust with fast-paced offense and more technical holds. Rust nearly overpowered Kushida, but he rolled through to attack the Hoverboard Lock, forcing Malcolm Bivens to get the referee to stop the match.

Zoey Stark made her debut in singles action, and looks exceptional in the match, winning in less than five minutes.

Six-man tag team action was the main event of the evening. Balor and O’Reilly worked well together, but neither man wanted to cooperate with Roderick Strong. Strong finally did get the tag but he found himself on the wrong side of the ring as Dunne, Lorcan, and Burch took turns beating him up. Strong was finally able to make the tag to O’Reilly who went on a storm against the three opponents.

Things were going great for O’Reilly until he was floored by Dunne, who started to torture him for the mistake. That was the case until Balor got into the ring, focusing right on Dunne’s knee from Sunday night. Balor’s offense ended up taking out the referee, leaving him in a heap. They kept rolling until Adam Cole made his appearance, laying out O’Reilly. That led to Dunne landing the Bitter End on Balor and pinning the champion for the win.
