1. Acquiring Nolan Arenado

You had to have known this was coming.

Dating back to last year, third baseman Nolan Arenado was unhappy with the Colorado Rockies organization. It was so bad that it entered the public eye, causing many to set their timers as to when the Rockies would move on from their superstar. As it turns out, it took over a year.

Earlier this month, the Cardinals acquired Arenado from the Rockies in exchange for left-handed pitcher Austin Gomber and prospects Elehuris Montero, Toney Locey, Mateo Gil and Jake Sommers. Oh, and the Rockies threw $50 million to the Cardinals to finalize the move. You read that right. The Cardinals are getting Arenado plus $50 million!

Arenado is coming off a rather down 2020 campaign at the plate, but you can’t look too much into that. From 2015 until 2019, Arenado has knocked in over 100 runs in each campaign. Not to mention, he is one of the better defenders at the hot corner, as he has won a Gold Glove in every season of his career!

With one move, the Cards built the best corner infield duo in the league with Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt. Acquiring Arenado could help the Cardinals make a run to the World Series for the first time since 2013.
