Green Bay Packers rumors, James White

2. James White

If the Packers want to acquire a veteran to pair with Dillon then White should be a prime target. He’s thrived with the Patriots as a top-notch receiver out of the backfield during his time in New England. White is also an underrated rusher of the ball when his carries are managed appropriately.

Adding White wouldn’t give Green Bay the sort of big-play threat that Gainewell might provide, but he is someone who can keep the chains moving at a high level. His outstanding route-running skills would give the Packers an extra dimension anytime they need to throw the ball.

The big question Green Bay needs to answer about White is whether or not they’re willing to pay the money required to fend off the competition in free agency. He’s not going to get a deal in Jones’ range on the open market, but he won’t be cheap. The Packers would likely need to make him a multi-year offer with an average annual value of around $5 million to get a deal done. It’s easy to see why LaFleur and his coaching staff might advocate for a cheaper solution.

White is another player who can help the Packers cover up for their lack of talent at wide receiver. Signing him wouldn’t generate national headlines, but it could be a hugely impactful move for Green Bay when the postseason rolls around.
