Vikings draft rumors, Caleb Farley

2. Caleb Farley, Cornerback, Virginia Tech

Zimmer loves to utilize big, physical corners who can battle at the line of scrimmage and make plays on the ball down the field. Farley fits that definition perfectly. It’s still crucial that Minnesota pass on the chance to select him if he’s available when they go on the clock.

Remember, Minnesota landed two quality cornerbacks for the future in the early rounds of their 2020 draft. Jeff Gladney was selected in the first round and flashed signs of becoming an above-average starter.

The real gem of the class was third round selection Cameron Dantzler. The former Mississippi State star looks like he has legitimate All-Pro potential on the outside. His final season PFF grade of 70.9 illustrates just how good he was as a rookie.

The competence and upside of that pair should allow Minnesota to comfortably pass on adding another quarterback on Day One. Farley might be good value at No. 14, but he’s not good enough to give the Vikings an upgrade over what they already have at cornerback. Zimmer must resist the temptation to add another talented defensive back with such an early draft pick.
