Patriots free agency news, Nelson Agholor
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – DECEMBER 13: Wide receiver Nelson Agholor #15 of the Las Vegas Raiders catches a 21-yard touchdown against the Indianapolis Colts in the first half of their game at Allegiant Stadium on December 13, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Chris Unger/Getty Images) /

2. Nelson Agholor

Agholor picked the right time to enjoy arguably the best season of his career. He’s a relatively hot name in free agency after logging 48 catches for 896 yards and eight touchdowns for the Raiders last season.

The Patriots shouldn’t be the team caught paying for Agholor while his personal stock is at the highest mark of his career. In particular, his penchant for dropping the football at a high rate should cause New England to look elsewhere. They need to focus their attention on wideouts who can help keep drives alive in 2021. Agholor makes more than his share of big plays, but he also forces his offense off the field with his own mistakes at a troubling rate.

Bet on several teams getting into a bidding war for the former first round pick. They’ll delude themselves into believing that Agholor is just a late bloomer. Belichick is too smart to fall for that flawed line of thinking.

The Patriots should focus on more reliable wideouts in free agency. Agholor is much more likely to turn into a pumpkin than a star at this stage in his career. New England can spend its money much better on superior options at the wide receiver position.
