Scouting Report. LB. Pick Analysis. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Lavonte David. 2. player. 48

Washington’s front seven has become one of the best in the league. Their defensive line is built to win with names like Jonathan Allen, Chase Young and Montez Sweat adding pressure. Too bad they won’t take that next step without upgrading the second level of defense.

WFT’s linebackers need a tune-up overall. Kevin Pierre-Louis shined in coverage last season, but he’s 29 and will hit the market after a breakout year. Meanwhile, Jon Bostic is limited overall outside of playing the run.

Lavonte David is highly regarded as one of the best linebackers in the game. Fresh off a Super Bowl win, he’s still playing at an incredibly high level at the age of 30. With great speed and quality cover skills, would this be the upgrade needed to make the front seven better?

Washington has another option that would save them money. Landon Collins has struggled in man coverage as the team’s strong safety and could be better suited shifting down the weak-side backer role. With WFT owing him $15 million in 2021, he’ll need to be on the field.

David is wanting to return to Tampa Bay. Washington has pressing needs elsewhere. Save some cash by moving Collins and spend it on another player.
