Bam Adebayo

Somehow, the margin for error was even more razor-thin in the East than it was out West. That’s the best way to describe how someone like Bam Adebayo could miss the cut despite the career year he’s putting together.

Aside from still being able to guard all five positions on the floor, Adebayo has made tremendous strides offensively, establishing himself as a reliable jump shooter from the mid-range, an improved scorer and an even more capable playmaker. He’s putting up 19.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.0 blocks per game on 57 percent shooting, and there’s no question he’s one of the most complete big men in the game today.

Unfortunately, as much as he’s been the one constant keeping the Miami Heat afloat, their 14-17 record cannot be overlooked — even factoring in all the injuries and COVID protocols they’ve had to deal with thus far. Considering what Julius Randle and even fellow snub Domantas Sabonis have done this season on better teams, this is a painful omission but also the correct one to make.

Verdict: Correct call
