NFL free agency 2021: Best offensive lineman available
Williams and Brandon Scherff are so close to one another in their production, one could only imagine them working together to terrorize defensive lines. Oh wait, they did in Washington. Too bad Bruce Allen ruined that for the future.
Will new management do the same for Scherff?
The former top-five pick graded out as one of the best run blockers in the NFL last season, falling just three points behind Quenton Nelson. He also graded out in both run blocking and pass protection well over the league average.
Since 2016, Scherff has only allowed more than two sacks once. Also, the sixth-year pro has limited his penalties to roughly two a year.
Washington’s roster will need to expand their run game. That only happens with a name like Scherff as the lead blocker in the trenches. Any team for that matter would love having the 29-year-old expanding massive running lanes to keep drives alive and pile drive forward for consistent first downs.
Any time one can bolster their interior protection, it’s best to do so. It’s why Scherff could reset the market for guards this offseason since his overall skills make him the best lineman available this offseason.
