3 veterans the Browns should replace in the NFL Draft
2. B.J. Goodson
Goodson was a decent middle linebacker for Cleveland last season, but his final season PFF grade of 65.4 accurately illustrates just how mediocre he was. There’s no reason for the Browns to make a significant effort to retain him in free agency.
Securing an upgrade in April’s draft should be pretty straightforward for the team’s front office. Nick Bolton will draw strong consideration from Cleveland if he’s still on the board when they go on the clock at No. 26. He would infuse the team’s defense with much-needed toughness against the run with his willingness to throw his body around in the middle.
Browns fans should also keep a close eye on Dylan Moses as a player their franchise should target on Day 3. He was insanely productive at Alabama and had the speed required to be a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at the next level. Whatever he lacks in size he more than makes up for with above-average instincts.
It’s time for Cleveland to upgrade their options at linebacker if they want to compete with the elite offenses they face in the AFC on a regular basis. Goodson didn’t move the needle for the Browns in 2020. Look for a rookie to take his place in 2021 if all goes according to plan.
