Justin Simmons rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
New York has the one thing that will have everyone talking about next month.
Money.
The Jets enter the offseason with $67.9 million in cap space. They will have the best chance to be an organization that can set the tone this offseason and fix their roster with top-tier free agents, making the rebuild seem shorter than it perhaps will be.
The Jets secondary finished 28th in pass defense last season, allowing opponents to average over 275 yards per game. Marcus Maye is an impending free agent and might better fit Robert Saleh’s scheme as the strong safety moving forward.
This would free up the role Jimmie Ward thrived in over the past two seasons.
Saleh is regarded as one of the best player’s coaches in America. Defensively, the Jets need to finally fix the mistakes to give them a side of the ball that feels like it’s progressing. Adding Simmons — along with other names — likely gives the first-year head coach a base to work with moving past 2021.
