AFC West . . Scouting Report. Las Vegas Raiders . 3. player. 28. Pick Analysis

If Jon Gruden wasn’t on a 10-year deal, he’d be fired after last season. Every year, the Raiders have never been able to find their footing. It leads to a poor showing and eventually, a kick out of the playoff picture.

A big reason for that is the team’s defensive woes. Primarily, that happens in the secondary.

Damon Arnette needs a breakout season after being selected 19th overall last April. The same goes for Johnathan Abram, who if isn’t hurt, leads with his head in tackles and whiffs as much as a he hits. Could the team cut LaMarcus Joyner now that they expect him to be the second-string nickel corner?

Simmons could play multiple roles in Sin City. His coverage skills would allow him to be single-high man while his overall tackling could have him better suited for Gus Bradley’s Cover 3. Should the Raiders believe in drafting a more roaming free safety, perhaps moving Simmons to the nickel or the slot would give them extra protection across the middle of the field.

The Raiders have been a hot name to watch for with Marcus Williams from New Orleans. They should be one for their former AFC West rival too.
