Dallas Cowboys. 2. 123. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. NFC East . . player

This one has been a long time coming. Expect Jerry Jones to overpay this offseason and have Simmons near the top of the list.

The Cowboys are hoping Dan Quinn’s “Legion of Boom” defense can return to glory down in Arlington. Having a strong front seven made the secondary even better, but let’s not take anything away from Earl Thomas and Co. Since he arrived in Atlanta, Quinn has tried to duplicate that success.

It ended with 28-3 jokes.

Dallas needs both a rangy defender in the backend and a thumper. Should they feel as if the safeties in coverage via the draft will struggle, they will likely address the need in free agency. Simmons has the range, the hands and the tackling skills to play a similar role to that of Thomas in Quinn’s system.

There have been rumors that Dallas looked into trading for Simmons over the past two seasons. Now, they can add him to a long-term deal without giving up any collateral to add him.
