San Francisco 49ers . 1. player. Pick Analysis. . 42. Scouting Report. NFC West

Last April, the 49ers finally pulled the trigger and found a way to get Williams out of D.C. and the dysfunction of Dan Snyder. They gave the now Washington Football Team a fifth-round pick in 2020 and a third-round pick in 2021.

This was never viewed as a rental option. They want Williams back for the foreseeable future. Guess what, Williams wants to return to the NFC West franchise as well. It should be John Lynch’s No.1 priority this offseason to keep him in the building

This will cost the 49ers plenty in free agency. The team is expected to lose multiple free agents due to pricing on the defensive side of the all. More than that, they’ll need to find a way to extend All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner before he hits free agency in 2022.

Williams didn’t allow a sack in nine-straight games on the way to his eighth Pro Bowl nod. His highlight reel with or without Jimmy Garoppolo is a huge reason why San Francisco won even with names like Nick Mullens and Jeff Wilson. Imagine San Francisco now fully healthy once again?

If the 49ers are running it back with Garoppolo in 2021, they need to make sure their offensive line is ready to carry the team. Williams was a low-risk, high-reward addition in 2020. They now need to pay him for the vast reward in 2021.
