2021 NBA Mock Draft 1.0: Cleveland Cavaliers swing big at No. 1

Jalen Johnson’s stock has certainly been complicated by his decision to leave the Duke program, opting out of the rest of the season to begin preparing for the draft just after being mostly glued to the bench in a win over NC State. In addition, Duke immediately went on a win streak and has generally looked much better since he left the team.
But Johnson’s tools are still intriguing and his upside may be too good for the Warriors to pass up. Johnson has the size and athletic tools to play the 4 full time but his mobility, handle and playmaking from that position will give him an advantage in plenty of matchups. He has a decently high floor at both ends, with disruptive tendencies on defense and the ability to handle a variety of positions and player types.
The biggest question is whether Johnson can be a reliable enough outside shooter to fully inhabit his offensive potential. However, he’s a nice fit for the Warriors because he can contribute right away, using his versatility and complementary skills to make a difference off the bench as they try to pivot back towards contention. If he ever hits his ceiling he could then be a key piece for whatever iteration of the Warriors comes after Curry, Klay and Draymond begin to drop off.
