2021 NBA Mock Draft 1.0: Cleveland Cavaliers swing big at No. 1
By Ian Levy
On paper, the Hawks have plenty of overlapping skills and bodies at multiple positions and big wings and stretchy 4s is the place they seem to have the most depth, with John Collins, De’Andre Hunter, Danilo Gallinari, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Cam Reddish already jockeying for minutes and opportunities. Still, there isn’t another big man worth reaching for this high and the offensive primacy of Trae Young makes chasing another ball-handler or primary creator seem like a sunk cost.
But a lot could happen between now and October’s draft, which could dramatically change the calculus on the current roster, especially a John Collins trade. Kuminga’s game needs plenty of refinement but he projects to be a capable slasher and comfortable spot-up threat who can make an impact at both ends with energy and effort. He’s listed at just 6-foot-6 on the G League website but he plays bigger and even if he’s duplicating things already on the roster he probably provides the Hawks more value than a more primary creator like Jalen Green or Jalen Suggs.
