LB. Tony Fields II. Comp. 877. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. WVU. player

*Compensatory pick

The Saints could really use some linebacking depth. Tony Fields is one of the best players on the board in the middle rounds at any position. He’s falling under the radar, mostly because of his size (listed at 6-foot-1, 222 pounds). Still, the Saints will see what he’s able to bring to the table, and he has enough skill to crack the starting lineup immediately.

That will really help the Saints, who will likely look to replace Kwon Alexander, who comes with $13 million in cap savings if he’s released. The Saints can’t afford not to cut him. Alexander was an undersized linebacker who worked just about perfectly next to Demario Davis. Fields can actually step into that role tomorrow.

Fields was all over the field for West Virginia, where he played his final season after transferring from Arizona. During the Senior Bowl, he was one of the best players on the field. He was making a ton of plays against the best seniors in the country. It’s the best spot to show how good he could be.

The Saints will overdraft players they think have a chance to step in immediately. Fields may not have NFL size, but he has a great on-field IQ, and he has the speed to make it work otherwise.
