Moves Jets closer to top of AFC East hierarchy

This already had the potential to be a transformational offseason for the Jets, given New York’s cap space and draft capital, to make up ground on the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East, but adding Wilson would fast-track that process to make the division a two-horse race in 2021.

Fielding a roster that in a lot of ways was constructed with at least one eye on the No. 1 pick in the draft and Clemson mega-prospect Trevor Lawrence, the Jets’ combined margin for error in their two games against the eventual division champion Bills was just 18 points, including an 18-10 home loss back in October.

Even with Josh Allen making major strides as a possible MVP candidate in 2020, the Jets would have the best quarterback in the division and the most stability at the position with Allen entering the final year of his rookie contract, in which an extension could hamper Buffalo’s ability to build around him.

Adding Wilson and using the remaining cap space and draft capital this year to add playmakers on offense and premier linemen in front of him, could leave the Jets primed to enter 2021 as the favorites to win the AFC East.
