Round 3

Pick Analysis. Northern Iowa. Spencer Brown. player. 48. Scouting Report. OT. 96

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers might have been worried about their high-priced tackle Donovan Smith coming into last season, but he was outright amazing down the stretch. He definitely showed his experience mattered and helped keep Tom Brady clean on his run to the Super Bowl. Smith is going to play one more season at least, but if he falls off a cliff then the Bucs need someone waiting in the wings to take his spot.

Tristan Wirfs could take the left tackle spot after he came in as a first-round pick last season. Then, Arians and offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich could look in the middle rounds to take Wirfs right tackle position. Spencer Brown is an interesting player at the position.

Brown would be a great pick to develop as a backup with the skills to fill in when someone gets injured. While he played at Northern Iowa, hardly a football powerhouse, it’s hard to deny a player who stands 6’8 and 312 lbs. In fact, one of the knocks on him is he might be “too big“. That’s something this coaching staff could work with.

Brown has decent agility, his movement is quite good for a man his size, and he can blow defensive ends off the ball. He seems like a perfect fit at right tackle since the left side is taken for the next few years by Smith and Wirfs.
