Round 4

Scouting Report. QB. Wake Forest. 128. Pick Analysis. Jamie Newman. player. 48

Jamie Newman might not be a name most have paid attention to for a while, but he’s someone to watch in this draft. He originally transferred from Wake Forest to Georgia, but then he opted out of the season. He’s been focusing on the draft all year long, and now he’s preparing to take the next step to the NFL.

His decision to opt out probably hurt his draft stock more than he thought, and now he’s likely falling further and further down draft rankings. There are so many top-flight QBs in this year’s class, so once all the top players are off the board, expect to see a drought in quarterbacks. The time between Mac Jones and Kyle Trask could be one full round. Then, from Trask to Kellen Mond could be another full round. Newman might be one of those diamonds in the rough that could transition this franchise to life after Brady.

Newman has all the skills to be an NFL starter. He’s very athletic and is in the mold of the modern quarterback. Not only is he mobile outside the pocket, he’s able to move around inside the pocket to avoid getting hit. His best quality is he seems to have ice in his veins. It’s hard to get him flustered and he will let the play develop.

Newman is going to be someone a lot of teams consider, but the Bucs are willing to go quarterback when teams are looking at other positions in those middle rounds. A ton of defensive tackles and wide receivers will come off the board while the Bucs get their quarterback of the future.
