Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. EDGE. Shaquil Barrett. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 1. player. 48

In case you haven’t realized in the NFL today, teams with a pass rush are good. Tampa Bay won the Super Bowl because they were able to make Patrick Mahomes run for his life near ever snap and forced him to make costly errors.

Of all the Tampa Bay free agents this offseason, Barrett is the one whose production will be irreplaceable. What happens if he leaves? Does Tampa bank on drafting his replacement with the immediate production returning? Do they sign an uproven talent and hope he has a similar rise of success?

Barrett joined the staff in 2019 on a prove-it one-year contract. All he did was lead the NFL in sacks with 19.5 that year. Sure, he saw his numbers cut in half this year with quarterback takedowns (8.0), but he and Jason Pierre-Paul he’s an ideal player for the defensive front Bowles loves to run.

Looking back, Barrett is one of the more well-rounded standing edge rushers in the NFL. Linebackers, wide receivers and running backs all could replaced. Pass rushers of his caliber can’t.
