3 free agents the Buffalo Bills should avoid in 2021 offseason
Tre’Davious White is the standout No.1 cornerback in Buffalo. He’s played well all four years and is showing why some consider him a top-five player at the position. The problem is, every defensive backfield needs quality cornerbacks to be an elite defense.
Levi Wallace is good and Taron Johnson had a pivotal moment in the AFC Divisional Round. Both could be replaceable in an instant if McDermott wanted to let them go in free agency next offseason.
Would Richard Sherman be a name to watch opposite White?
Sherman entered 2021 coming off a ’19 season in which he allowed just 227 receiving yards in coverage. Injuries and age prevented the 32-year-old from duplicating that same success, playing in a mere five games and recording just one turnover.
When looking at his instincts, Sherman has the tools to be a quality cover man in the NFL. His body though no longer can play the leading role. Based on name alone, he’s going to want top corner money as a No. 2 man in Orchard Park.
There’s no denying that Buffalo needs cornerback help but if they are to spend at the top price, it should be for someone like Seattle’s Shaquill Griffin. He’s younger and fits the zone scheme Buffalo runs quite well.
Sherman is still a fine player, but he’s not worth a salary of $10 million a season.
