Melvin Ingram rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
If Matt Rhule’s teams at Temple and Baylor had one trait, it was toughness, something that the second-year head coach is trying to instill in the Carolina Panthers, with every ounce of financial support to do so from owner David Tepper.
Carolina’s defense made some strides in Rhule’s first season, but will look to hit the ground running in 2021, particularly if the Panthers can significantly bolster its stable of pass-rushers.
The Panthers boasted just the NFL’s 20th ranked hurry percentage last season, with just 29 total sacks. Pairing Ingram opposite last April’s second-round pick Yetur Gross-Matos might be just what the doctor orders to jump-start Carolina’s pass-rush and give its defense the teeth Rhule hopes to instill.
Sitting pretty with $31.05 million in cap space, eighth most in the NFL, expect the Panthers to be big players in the markets for the best available front-seven defenders, including Ingram’s.
