Melvin Ingram rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
Jacksonville is going to be at or near the top of most of these lists when it comes to likely landing spots for the top pass-rushers on the open market, both due to need and a league-high $82 million in cap space.
If the Jaguars judge Ingram to be the best available pass rusher, in a lot that could include the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Bud Dupree, Broncos’ Von Miller, and others, chances are he will be offered a substantial contract.
Josh Allen, the Jaguars’ first-round pick in 2019, is among the team’s most productive pass rushers, but he is coming off a knee injury that ended his 2020 season after just eight weeks. Allen produced two sacks and 22 pressures last season.
Illustrating just how non-existent the Jaguars’ pass-rush has been in recent years, Dawuane Smoot led the team with 5.5 sacks in 2020.
Ingram would immediately bolster the Jaguars’ presence up front and would have the chance to be a disruptive force as well as a centerpiece of the defense.
