3 free agents the Minnesota Vikings should avoid in the 2021 offseason
Most NFL defenses run a three cornerback-set now. Cameron Dantzler will be the starter on one side after a successful rookie campaign. Jeff Gladney, the team’s first-round pick, might be best suited in the slot to play against the run. Either way, he’ll start too.
The verdict is finally out on Mike Hughes, whose inconsistencies are more based on his injuries. Teams that have weak secondaries are picked apart week after week. The Vikings will definitely be in the market to upgrade at the cornerback position.
Jackson certainly has been a mixed bag in his five years with the Cincinnati Bengals. He missed the entire rookie year with a torn pectoral muscle but bounced back in Year 2. Since coming out of Houston, the former Cougar has totaled 150 tackles, three interceptions and a sack to go with 41 pass deflections.
Jackson has never proven to be a bonafide No. 1 corner. Teams will be willing to overpay due to the luxury of a position. In reality, Jackson is a perfect fit for the Vikings secondary. The problem is, the asking price will be too high.
Minnesota will likely have to decide if they want a prime No. 2 cornerback or several other positions this offseason. Long story short, they are more than a corner away from contending, making the signing of Jackson a tad difficult to get behind at the current asking price.
