2021 NFL Mock Draft: Eagles bring in competition for Jalen Hurts
By Brad Weiss
One team who definitely will not be in the market for a quarterback this draft cycle is the Los Angeles Chargers, who got their man in the first round in 2020. Justin Herbert not only showed he could play at the NFL level, but he was the Offensive Rookie of the Year, and someone they can build around for the foreseeable future.
After selecting Herbert last year, the Chargers turn their attention to the offensive line in 2021, adding Northwestern star Rashawn Slater at pick No. 13 overall. The Chargers need help at offensive tackle, and in Slater, they get a player who many believe is the best offensive tackle not named Penei Sewell in this draft class.
The Minnesota Vikings seem to be sticking with Kirk Cousins as their quarterback, as they try to bring stability to the most important position on the field. If Cousins is the franchise guy, they need help up front along the offensive line, but with Vera-Tucker already gone, they may want to turn their attention to the defense.
On defense, the Vikings need help in the secondary, and they pull a stunning move here by adding safety Trevon Moehrig from TCU. This is a guy who has been mocked everywhere from pick No. 10, to the second round, but in Minnesota, he joins a defensive-minded head coach who could get a lot out of his freakish talent.
The New England Patriots have to first figure out who their quarterback will be this season, as Cam Newton is likely gone, and they do not have much behind him. This past season, they had to sit and watch their former franchise guy win a Super Bowl with another team, and you can be sure Bill Belichick is not going to stand for another season on the outside looking in at the playoffs.
If his track record serves him, Belichick is not going to draft a quarterback in the first round, so expect that player to come via free agency. Whoever it is, he needs some weapons on the outside, and at pick No. 15 overall, Senior Bowl week star Kadarius Toney is the selection, giving the Pats a legitimate WR1 next season.
