24. Michigan State Spartans

Michigan State is probably considered a basketball school at heart with 10 Final Four appearances and two championships in its history, but the football experience is still one of the better ones in the country. State fans start filling the tennis courts (yes, they have their fans tailgating on tennis courts) at 7 a.m. on game days. Half of the people ready to enter the Spartan Stadium are dressed like ancient fighters, only these are clad in green. The costumes are half the fun at Michigan State.

The stadium architecture is incredibly smart, giving fans a feel like they are almost on the field! The fans are literally surrounding everything, so when the stadium is packed, it’s impossible to get away from the sound.

Something that might not sound important at first will become one of your favorite parts of the Michigan State experience. The marching band is one of the best in the country. It’s usually 300 strong and the traditions in their songs run over 100 years old. The green and white stand out when the stadium is rocking.

The rivalries within the Big Ten help put at least three must-see matchups in Spartan Stadium every year. Even when Michigan State is having a down football year, there are some incredibly exciting rivalry games. This past season, they took out Michigan on the road, but they were able to derail the season of Northwestern at home. The Spartans games are one of the best experiences in college football when they are good. It’s still a lot of fun even when they are bad.
