Justin Fields 2021 NFL Draft landing spot No. 2: Houston Texans

Just looking at the current rosters, the Houston Texans don’t need Justin Fields in the mix. Deshaun Watson remains a member of the franchise but every indication and inkling of common sense suggests that won’t be the case by the time the 2021 NFL Draft rolls around. Put simply, he’s going to be traded.

Once Watson is dealt, that’s going to leave a massive hole at quarterback. While the Texans would love to get a young quarterback or stopgap option in a return package for Watson, they may need to focus on the future and getting the best option possible to replace their former first-round pick at quarterback.

So whether the Texans trade Watson to the Dolphins, Jets, Panthers, Broncos or otherwise, they will get a treasure trove of picks in return. Subsequently, they could make a move up for Fields to be the leader of the franchise as it gets a substantial facelift this offseason.

Justin Fields 2021 NFL Draft landing spot No. 1: New York Jets

Assuming that the New York Jets don’t trade for Deshaun Watson, the belief among many is still that the organization plans to begin a hard reset that involves trading away Sam Darnold. As such, there will be a big hole at quarterback.

The reason to trade away Darnold and start fresh is obvious. There’s so much scar tissue with the former first-round pick that giving him a fresh start and bringing in a new quarterback under a new regime could be for the best.

In the simplest terms, the Jets should have the first crack at selecting Justin Fields in the 2021 NFL Draft as they have the No. 2 pick. So if they do trade Darnold, don’t trade for Watson and stay at No. 2, they could use a potential franchise quarterback such as the Ohio State standout to come in and usher the franchise into a new era.
