Eagles rumors, Alshon Jeffery

1. Alshon Jeffery

The Eagles desperately need to upgrade their wide receiver talent to make life for their quarterbacks. That means both Jeffery and DeSean Jackson need to be banished to the bench in 2021. Both are massive injury risks who are significantly overpaid.

This is the ideal spot to be addressed by Philadelphia with the first round selection. Landing either of the class’s top two wideouts could give the Eagles good value at No. 6. DeVonta Smith and Ja’Marr Chase both have the talent to become high-level No. 1 receiver at the next level. Smith’s stock is on the rise after his brilliant performance in the National Championship game while Chase remains a bit of a mystery after opting out of the season for LSU.

The more interesting question for Philadelphia’s front office to address is whether or not adding one wide receiver will be enough. Last year’s first-rounder Jalen Reagor showed enough talent to be counted on as a future starter. It still might behoove the Eagles to add one more young player to the mix in 2021.

If they go that route, keep a close eye on Chris Olave or Dazz Newsome as likely Day 2 (or even 3) selections that can blossom into NFL starters. This year’s class doesn’t have the depth that defined their 2020 counterparts, but it’s still a really talented group on the whole. Philadelphia would be wise to take advantage of that depth.
