Was Rosemary’s Baby filmed in New York City?
This film was ahead of its time. It’s considered to be one of the originators when it comes to the horror-terror genre in films. The 1968 horror film is based on the Ira Levin novel, by the same name.
The “Bramford Building”, which really is The Dakota Apartments was used during the filming of this movie. It’s where Rosemary and her husband set up to live in the movie. It’s located at West 72nd Street at Central Park West. Much of the filming takes place in their apartment.
It’s said that the Dakota Building was inspired by Levin’s Alwyn Court Apartments due to its vintage “Renaissance” appearance. That building is also located in New York at 180 West 58th Street. Filming is no longer allowed, but you can certainly stop by and snap some photos.
