New report says Seahawks responding to calls on Russell Wilson

The Seahawks have reportedly taken the next step in the process of seeking a trade for Russell Wilson.

The relationship between Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks has deteriorated quickly in 2021. What began as rumors about him being unhappy has turned into his agent leaking out places where his client would like to be traded.

The Seahawks front office could have simply ignored any calls or messages regarding a Wilson trade. However, ESPN’s Dianna Russini is reporting the team is now actively listening and responding to such calls.

There is a natural progression to this process and actively listening to offers is a big step. It means the front office in Seattle understands there may be no fixing this relationship.

There is also the possibility the front office just wants to listen to see if there is an offer that simply cannot be refused. This appears to be a different strategy than what is being done in Houston where the Texans front office is acting like they have zero intention of moving on from Deshaun Watson.

Wilson’s agent said the quarterback would only accept a trade to the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders, or Chicago Bears. That still shouldn’t stop other teams from calling just to gauge the market.

Wilson hasn’t gone so far as to demand a trade just yet. But listening to trade calls for a legend of the franchise proves something has gone very wrong and management is aware of the issue. Given his demands, the Seahawks could move Wilson and get a starting quarterback with experience in return. Just don’t expect fans to be happy if the organization can’t rectify things with Wilson.
