If the 49ers aren’t going to replace Jimmy Garoppolo, they need to build around him, we do that here in a seven-round mock for San Francisco.

With free agency and then the draft on the horizon, the big question surrounding the San Francisco 49ers continues to concern the quarterback position and the future of Jimmy Garoppolo.

The possibility of the Niners moving on from Garoppolo has been the narrative that has defined their offseason to this point. There has been buzz around Deshaun Watson and the 49ers, who are also viewed as a potential landing spot for one of the top non-Trevor Lawrence quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Yet the 49ers have consistently been publicly supportive of the former New England Patriot and with each passing day it seemingly becomes more likely that Garoppolo will remain under center for San Francisco in 2021.

That may be an uninspiring prospect for many following a disappointing 2020 season for Garoppolo that was ultimately curtailed by injury.

However, picking 12th-overall in this year’s draft, the Niners have a premium pick with which to upgrade an already talented roster and, projected to have 10 selections in total, they boast plenty of ammunition to build the best possible team around Garoppolo.

Constructing that support system should include improving the protection from the offensive line, bolstering a defense that was severely hit by injuries last season and could suffer significant losses in free agency, and adding further weapons to an already exciting group of skill-position players.

Here we look at how the Niners could attempt to substantially improve Garoppolo’s chances of guiding San Francisco back to the playoffs with a seven-round mock draft.
