2021 NFL Draft: San Francisco 49ers 7-round mock
Speaking of value, getting Joseph in the fourth round would be nothing short of a steal.
The Wildcat corner has been a riser in the process and was ranked as the 42nd overall prospect in the class by NFL Media’s Daniel Jeremiah in his most recent top 50.
Inexperience will be a knock against Joseph, who did not play in the 2019 season after transferring to Kentucky from LSU, where he featured in only six games.
But what stands in his favor, especially for a team like the Niners that uses a lot of cover 3 and quarters coverages, is Joseph’s combination at length and athleticism.
At 6ft 1in and 191 pounds, Joseph has the ideal frame for the position and also demonstrated encouraging ball skills in his sole season in Lexington, recording four interceptions including one returned for a touchdown.
Joseph is not a prospect the Niners would likely be able to plug in as an immediate starter. However, Emmanuel Moseley is a restricted free agent whom the 49ers should have little difficulty keeping around and, should they succeed in re-signing Jason Verrett, Joseph would be in a spot where he would have the time to develop into a starting outside corner with significant upside.
