After agreeing to a buyout from the Detroit Pistons, NBA veteran Blake Griffin is rumored to be likely to sign with the Brooklyn Nets.

Blake Griffin is officially an unrestricted free agent after reaching a buyout with the Detroit Pistons on Friday afternoon. The 11-year veteran has not played in a game since Feb. 12 and is having one of the worst seasons in his otherwise noteworthy career. Griffin had been sitting until he and the organization could figure out the best move for him. They were obviously unable to find suitable trade value for him ahead of the March 25 deadline and so a buyout became inevitable.

Brooklyn, Miami, Portland, and Golden State were initially believed to be some of the possible landing spots for the 31-year-old but now it looks like one of them has emerged as the favorite.

Griffin most likely to sign with the Nets amid buyout

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Blake Griffin is most likely to join Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden to help fill out the Brooklyn Nets’ roster.

It looks as though Griffin thinks the Nets have the best chance to win a championship this season despite it being their core group’s first season together.

The Nets have won 10 of their last 11 games heading into the All-Star break and certainly look like championship contenders. They have the second-best record in the Eastern Conference at 24-13 and are only a half-game behind Philadelphia.

Is Griffin the missing piece that Durant and company will need to take down the other contenders?
