1. Trevon Moehrig

Some teams refuse to spend a first round pick on a safety, but the Browns have such a glaring need in the back end of their secondary that landing Moehrig represents a great outcome for them on Day 1.

Getting Grant Delpit back from injury and adding Moehrig in the draft could turn Cleveland’s profound defensive weakness into a big strength. Moehrig has about star potential based on his ability to produce turnovers in the final third. He’s got tremendous range that makes him a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks.

The former TCU standout does need to improve his work against the run if he wants to maximize his potential. He’s not afraid to stick his nose in there and tackle, but his technique needs substantial work. That’s something the Browns’ coaching staff should be able to iron out during his rookie campaign.

Choosing a safety in Round 1 is never going to electrify a fan base, but it is the right move for the Browns if they want to take another step forward in 2021. He can step right in and start for them when Week 1 rolls around. He could grow into a borderline Pro Bowler by the time Cleveland starts to worry about the postseason.
