As the NBA’s trade deadline approaches, do the Los Angeles Clippers have a chance at landing veteran point guard Kyle Lowry?

NBA All-Star Weekend 2021 has officially come and gone. The festivities wrapped up in Atlanta on Sunday night with most events taking place successfully and without a hitch. While players often take time to spend with their families and close friends, general managers around the league typically use the break as a chance to get ahead on deals that they’d like to make before the trade deadline.

This year’s date falls on March 25, and we’ve already seen veteran Blake Griffin choose his next destination after being bought out. Now, Toronto Raptors point guard and former NBA champion Kyle Lowry may be looking for a new home. Is he likely to find one in Los Angeles?

The Clippers are still trying to recover from their embarrassing blown 3-1 series lead in last year’s bubble playoff series with the Denver Nuggets. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George couldn’t get them to the conference finals, and they could need another piece to lift them over the top. They traded for Luke Kennard in the offseason and signed him to a four-year, $64 million extension. Kennard, at 6-foot-5 and 24 years old, is averaging just 7.4 points and 1.7 assists in 20.1 minutes per game. So, he’s clearly not the guy.

Could the Clippers’ missing piece be north of the border?

Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reported earlier today that the Clippers do indeed have interest in acquiring six-time All-Star in Lowry.

It would be difficult for Tyronn Lue’s team to add the veteran point guard but not necessarily impossible. They could use Kennard as a trade piece before the deadline. Lowry would seemingly be the perfect solution to their blown leads and leadership-down-the-stretch problems.

Does a Lowry trade make the Clippers any more formidable?
