Mountain West Conference Tournament

  • Dates: March 10-13
  • Location: Las Vegas, NV
  • Venue: Thomas & Mack Center
  • Top Seed: San Diego State
  • Bracket

The Mountain West Tournament is one worth monitoring for bubble purposes. The league’s top seed is a lock for the field in San Diego State while Colorado State, Utah State and Boise State are all hovering between the last four teams in the field and the first four teams out of it.

Boise State suffered a very damaging loss to end the regular season, falling at home to the league’s doormat in Fresno State, a Quadrant 4 defeat that is an albatross on the Broncos’ resume. The defeat also dropped Boise State into a very dangerous 4-5 matchup with Nevada, a team with enough talent to win this game and give the Aztecs a scare in the semifinals.

The Mountain West should get at least two teams into the field on Selection Sunday with the potential of three depending on how the rest of the bubble shakes out. The easiest path to a third bid from the league comes from San Diego State getting upset prior to the finals, which would likely lead to Boise State and either Colorado State or Utah State getting in.

That path is tough to see, however, as the Aztecs have been extremely consistent all year long and should take care of business. Expect a tight final against Colorado State with San Diego State cutting down the nets at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Prediction: San Diego State
