2021 NFL Mock Draft: How does Dak Prescott’s new deal affect first round?
By Brad Weiss
As we continue to inch towards next month’s first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, it is becoming clear that the Atlanta Falcons are looking for a long-term option at quarterback. Sure, Matt Ryan could be back with the team in 2021, but it would be a bit of a surprise if the team passed on Justin Fields with the No. 4 overall pick.
In drafting Fields, the Falcons now have a succession plan at the most important position in all of sports, and he is a guy who could take the reins from Ryan in a year or two. Fields has the talent to get the job done with his arm and his legs, and in Atlanta, he would become the new franchise quarterback for this new regime.
With their first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals could go several different ways, including trading down. They found their franchise quarterback in Joe Burrow last year, and with so many holes around him, they are going to have to find a way to get better on both sides of the ball entering Year 2.
If they stay at No. 5 overall, look for them to bolster the offensive line, teaming Jonah Williams with Oregon star Penei Sewell. When it comes to offensive line prospects, Sewell is one of the higher-rated players we have seen in some recent drafts, and he has the size and strength to start right away on the right, or left side as a rookie.
The Philadelphia Eagles have not fully committed to Jalen Hurts being their starting quarterback in 2021, and some believe they are going to bring some competition in this offseason to battle him for the job. However, the owner of the team has said that he wants Hurts to be the guy moving forward, so that means the No. 6 overall pick could be used on a wide receiver.
Luckily for the Eagles, this is a draft that is loaded with wide receiver talent, and the team is definitely in need of some help in that department. Some feel Ja’Marr Chase is the best wide receiver in this draft class, and if he is available here, they have to run that index card up to the podium.
