2021 NFL Mock Draft: How does Dak Prescott’s new deal affect first round?
By Brad Weiss
The Tennessee Titans made it to the playoffs although they had a porous defense this past season, something they have to fix this offseason. They have an elite running back in Derrick Henry, and a very capable quarterback in Ryan Tannehill, but the lack of talent on defense was glaring once they made the playoffs.
With pick No. 22 overall, the Titans should look to add an edge rusher in the first round, and they do in this mock by adding Zaven Collins from Tulsa. This kid could play the edge, outside linebacker, or even in the box at the next level, and the Titans need that kind of versatility on that side of the ball.
With their second of two first-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, the New York Jets turn their attention to the defensive side of the ball, adding an edge rusher at pick No. 23 overall. This is a pick they got from the Seattle Seahawks for Jamal Adams, so it makes sense that they would target a defensive player towards the end of the first round.
At pick No. 23, the Jets decide to go with Gregory Rousseau, an outstanding edge rusher from the University of Miami. New York struggled mightily to get after the quarterback this past season, and with Robert Saleh taking over as head coach, that is going to turn around in a hurry.
At pick No. 24 overall, the Pittsburgh Steelers decide to go out and get an absolute weapon for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben announced this past week that he would be back with the team for the 2021 season, and by selecting Najee Harris, they get him some insurance at the running back position.
Harris was a touchdown machine for Alabama this past season and was right up there in the Heisman Trophy voting. He could play the role that Le’Veon Bell used to play with the Steelers, as they upgrade at the running back position here late in the first round.
