Colts mock draft, Rashod Bateman

1. Rashod Bateman

If the Colts want to move on from Hilton they can feel comfortable landing Bateman as his immediate replacement. Whatever the former Minnesota star lacks in terms of elite speed on the outside, he more than makes up for with his ability to run precise, intricate routes.

Bateman might be the best route-runner in this class when all is said and done. The way he gets in and out of his breaks without breaking stride is a joy to watch on film. He creates quality separation against all manner of competition.

Giving Wentz some larger windows to throw to in 2021 would be a good strategy for Indianapolis. Bateman may not make a ton of highlight catches behind NFL defenses as a rookie, but he’s going to produce yards at an impressive clip per catch.

Bateman isn’t getting the media buzz that he deserves as a potential No. 1 wideout on the outside, but the Colts are smart enough to see through the hype for some of his peers. Indianapolis fans should be thrilled if Bateman lands to them at No. 21.
