Scouting Report. San Francisco 49ers . player. Pick Analysis. NFC West . . 4. 42

Richard Sherman left Seattle with the hopes of rebounding with his NFC West rival franchise. In his second with the 49ers, he looked like an All-Pro again thanks to the help of now New York Jets coach Robert Saleh.

DeMeco Ryans was Saleh’s No.2 and will be looking to show why he’s the next up-and-coming defensive coordinator. Could Peterson be a name that makes him a head coach by 2023?

San Francisco understands the value a player of Peterson’s caliber brings to the table. For the past decade, wide receivers have lined up across from him with little to no success in man coverage. And with names like Jason Verett, Ahkello Witherspoon, K’Wuan Williams and Sherman all hitting the market, the 49ers need to upgrade the cornerback role.

Peterson will likely look for a similar deal of Sherman’s back from 2018. If the 49ers are willing to up the pay, perhaps a two-year deal would suffice with the hopes of his All-Pro production returning. Peterson has lost a step or two over time, but he’s still a standout corner on the market.
