Patrick Peterson rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
There will always be an attraction to the Cowboys as a free agent. They’re the New York Yankees of the NFL, fueled by ownership to pay big money to fix a team that still will be in trouble even if they add all the superstars.
But again, they’ll pay money for a name like Peterson.
Dallas is expected to lose up to four defensive backs this offseason. Trevon Diggs would be the only name with starting experience returning next year. His rookie year was one of learning, but he could best suit another year as the secondary corner instead of the heavy-hitter in man coverage.
Dan Quinn’s defense helped the NFC West fear Seattle for the early 2010s. Part of that reasoning was his relationship with Sherman and Earl Thomas. Peterson, who’s better suited for man-heavy schemes, could better fit Quinn’s zone scheme at this point in his career.
The Cowboys enter March with roughly $19.5 million in cap space. Should Peterson be willing to take less to play down in AT&T Stadium, this might be a perfect fit. Dallas’ hopes of contention rely on Dak Prescott thriving next season and the defense improving all over.
Peterson solves one of those problems.
