NBA rumors: 5 teams that should be selling at the NBA trade deadline
3. Oklahoma City Thunder
This was supposed to be a tank year for the rebuilding Oklahoma City Thunder, but even if they’ve been far more competitive than expected at 15-21, it’s only a matter of time before GM Sam Presti continues wheeling and dealing OKC’s older players to supplement his mountain of draft assets.
The Thunder have more additional first-round picks than anyone over the next decade, but with Al Horford, George Hill and Trevor Ariza still on the roster, Presti certainly won’t be complacent. Playoff contenders could use a backup point guard of Hill’s caliber, especially since he’s on a $9.6 million salary (with his $10 million salary for next year being non-guaranteed).
Ariza has not played for OKC this season, away from the team indefinitely as he fights a child custody battle, but if he returns to the basketball court, he and his $12.8 million expiring deal are almost guaranteed to be playing somewhere else after March 25. As for Horford, he may be tougher to move with his $27.5 million salary, as well as the remaining two years and $53.5 million on his contract after this season, but a respected veteran who can defend and spread the floor is always coveted. Between those three players and what we know about Presti, don’t be surprised to see at least one Thunder veteran on the move here soon.
