3 veterans the Broncos should replace in the NFL Draft
1. Drew Lock
Drew Lock is the youngest of the “veterans” on this list. He only has 18 starts under his belt, but an underwhelming 2020 season once again has the Broncos front office looking for an upgrade over a homegrown quarterback.
Lock was a second-round pick in 2019 so he is on a minimal deal through the 2022 season. The Broncos can draft a potential replacement in 2021 and try to find someone to take Lock in a trade. Or they can even have an open competition to maybe give the young quarterback one last chance.
But something has to change if the Broncos are going to be a contender in 2021. Fans may live in a fantasy land where Deshaun Watson or Russell Wilson are coming to Denver. Drafting a quarterback is far more realistic and also saves money.
Lock could end up being the answer. However, there has to be more real competition for him this year. He threw 16 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 2020 as the Broncos struggled to a 5-11 finish.
The Broncos are not a booming destination right now and that is why the draft exists. John Elway and the front office may want to take another chance and hope the newest rookie quarterback actually ends up being the answer.
