Raiders mock draft, Jayson Oweh

3. Jayson Oweh

Oweh is an edge-rushing prospect that Al Davis would have fallen in love with. He’s almost entirely bereft of polish as a pass-rusher, but his jaw-dropping athleticism gives him a chance to develop into a star at the next level.

The Raiders regularly drafted for speed during Davis’ tenure and that’s what Oweh brings to the table. There are rumors he might be able to post a sub 4.40 in the 40-yard dash. He’s at his best when he’s lined up on the outside and given license to speed past slower tackles.

The problem with Oweh as a prospect is that it might take him a redshirt season to really blossom. He just hasn’t played much football. He has all the tools required to be a star, but he needs a lot of coaching before his technique is even going to be passable as a pro.

The Raiders would probably be better served to nab a guy capable of helping them right away, but it’s easy to envision a scenario where Gruden talks himself into Oweh’s ceiling as an edge rusher. Speed still kills at the professional level and Oweh has more than any other prospect at his position in this year’s class.
